I'm planning to come to Australia to study at the University of Sydney, what can I expect and what should I prepare for?
The SUAMS Committee of 2009/2010 have prepared a survival guide for new Malaysian international students called “Sydney Survival Kit”. You can download this for viewing from the “Download Centre” Section of the SUAMS website under “News”.
Must I be a SUAMS member to be able to vote at a General Meeting of the Society?
Yes. Additionally, between the close of the AGM and the announcement of the new Committee, there will be a temporary suspension of membership. This means that if you wish to be able to vote at the AGM, you *must* join the Society before the AGM comes to an end.
What are the membership fees like?
Membership for the full-year is $5.
At food-related events, is the food served by SUAMS halal?
Yes, all food served by SUAMS is halal.
How do I join SUAMS?
You can join SUAMS through:-
- The SUAMS Orientation Week stall/booth set up at the beginning of each semester. Look out for the committee in our SUAMS t-shirts!!
- Contacting any of the committee members. You can look us up here on the SUAMS website. We will be happy to meet up with you!
How often does SUAMS host events/activities?
This year, SUAMS events and activities are held almost every week!
How often does the SUAMS committee have meetings?
This year's SUAMS committee conducts meetings almost every fortnight.
How will I be kept updated about events @ SUAMS?
You will receive mass emails through the SUAMS mailing list and you can also check announcements on the SUAMS website. Additionally, if you participate in the SUAMS Buddy System, you will receive personal communication from an assigned committee member!
I would like to participate in SUAMS by running for a position in the committee. How can I do so?
You can run for a position at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is held in September annually. If there are any vacant positions after the AGM, a by-election will be held in the first semester where you will have the opportunity to run!
