The video begins with a panoramic shot of a Malaysian student carrying the flag through the park. He walks through the main walkway in the university capturing the attention of other Malaysian students who are going on with their daily routines.
Mamak Night is one of the biggest event in SUAMS and is our pride and joy. In 2011, Mamak Night was awarded Best Major Event (Highly-Commended) by the University of Sydney Union. The year before, Mamak Night received an award of Best Performing Arts Events (Highly-Commended) by the USU. Similar award was received in 2008 and 2009.
This year we had come out with a couple of strategies which we personally think had achieved our target of promoting Malaysian culture. This included the inclusion of Roti Canai Spinning Show by a Malaysian restaurant More More Cha, Live Band Performances by our very own Malaysian students, Semester 1 Event Videos and a variety of games with cool prizes such as a printer sponsored by Nepchin, an iPod Touch and a FujiFilm Instax Mini Camera.
The crowd went wild when SUAMS scored the winning goal! The ambience was so lively. It was the first day of SPORTS CARNIVAL 2012 and we kicked off with one of the most famous sports in the world, soccer; or how most Malaysians or the English might call it ‘football’.
Thanks to the kindness of ISL management and the selflessness of our committee members in bringing their own games, participants in the event were able to play a wide range of games — including titles like Taboo, Uno Stacko and Monopoly Deal — for free!
There’s nothing worse than that quietness; quietness of being a first year student in a foreign country, quietness of our youthful vigour that gives way to a brutal new academic semester, and the quietness of an organisation representing the spirit of a country itself, Malaysia.
